Phase 1:
The MT will initiate combat and pull Onyxia to the back wall of her lair. Onyxia performs a few special moves during this phase, the first being a knockback on anyone standing in front of her (this is the reason for tanking her on the far back wall). In order to avoid tail swipe, melee DPS should attack from the side with ranged standing behind the melee. The OT should NOT stack with the MT as this will just create excess burden on the healers. If a member of your party happens to be standing behind Onyxia, he/she will be tail wiped into an area consisting of whelp eggs. Whelps will then spawn and descend onto the party (the OT will then have to pick these up). If everyone is positioned correctly, only the MT should be taking damage. This phase will end when Onyxia reaches 65% hp.

Phase 2:
Onyxia will ascend into the air at the beginning of this phase and will be untankable. The MT and OT should each pick a seperate side of the room and stand by the whelp cave entrance. 40 whelps will then spawn, with each tank having to pick up 20 from each side. The tanks should gather up threat quickly and then meet up in the center. DPS should hold off on AOE until all the whelps reach the center and the tanks have decent threat. Roughly every 60 seconds another wave of whelps will spawn. After the whelps are dead, all ranged DPS should focus on Onyxia (melee will not be able to attack her while she is in this phase). In addition, elite Lair Guards will spawn near the entrance of the lair. The MT should pick up these elite dragons and tank them near the area they spawn. All melee should concentrate on downing these. These elite dragons also cast Blast Nova (5 second cast time), so all healers and ranged should not stand by them as it does considerable damage. If melee dps takes considerable damage from this they should run out during the 5 second cast time. The OT's main duty is to gather up the whelps that spawn. All DPS should switch to the whelps when they spawn and down them quickly. On top of all this, Onyxia will occasionally perform a move called "Deep Breath". DBM has a timer for this, and at the appropiate time all members should move out of the center of the room and torwards the wall in order to avoid this move. This phase will end when Onyxia reaches 40% hp.

Phase 3:
Onyxia lands and the MT should then pick her up and move her back to the same position that he/she did during phase 1. The OT will gather up all the adds remaining and DPS should down these first before advancing to Onyxia. A new move is introduced during this phase, fear. Placing a tremor totem near the tank is ideal in order to stop flame breathe hitting the other party members. Again, the OT should not stack on the MT. Also, a few whelps may wander in and the OT should pick these up as well. The transition from phase 2 to phase 3 is the most difficult part during this encounter, and a good strategy is to save your important survivabilty CDS for this part. If all goes well, Onyxia should be downed at the end of this phase.
